Because of the personal experiences of the Co-Founders! We almost lost Laetitia due to a mis-diagnosis. She was being treated for Typhoid, yet she was suffering from Malaria. Hours after starting the treatment for Typhoid, her body reacted severely to the administered medication, and none of the medical professionals around seemed to know why this was happening. Fortunately we knew a nurse in the neighborhood with a very good track record. We reached out to her and she was able to intervene in time to make sure the proper diagnosis and medication were given, which turned a dire situation around. This single experience alone, spoke volumes about some of the fundamental issues affecting local care systems. Upon further research, we realized that many growth markets have the shared commonality of the root issues affecting their care systems.
MEDx eHealthCenter was founded in Veldhoven, The Netherlands in November 2015 by two sisters from Cameroon, Patricia and Laetitia Monthe, and is based in the Máxima Medical Center (MMC Innovation Center, for short). At the age of 10, Laetitia became very ill and she was taken to a M.D. who wrongly diagnosed her. She took the wrong medication and almost passed them. A neighbouring nurse found out what went wrong and saved Laetitia-s life. In 2003 Patricia moved to The Netherlands to study Business Administration (B.A. at International Business and Management Studies (IBMS) of the Fontys University and MBA at the University of Roehampton), while Laetitia went to the United Kingdom in 2007 to study Advertising (Bachelor’s degree) and moved to The Netherlands in 2010 to study Organisational Culture and Structure (Master’s). Patricia and Laetitia also followed an executive programme a pioneering professional development programme for senior managers in the fields of healthcare services called Innovating Health for Tomorrow at INSEAD.
